OLIVIA NORRIS: A WINNING TRADITION

Posted on Jul 07 2020 12:56 AM

Speed Capital Spotlight Athlete Olivia Norris has been competing in track & field over the course of 8 years now; however, the sport has a long standing history within her family. The journey began with Chris Norris, Olivia’s dad, who in 1986 won the Indiana State Championship in the 300M Low Hurdles. Rory Norris, Olivia’s uncle, followed up his brother’s accomplishment by winning state titles in 1989 and 1991 in the 110M Hurdles and 300M Low Hurdles. Madison Norris, Olivia’s brother, claimed the 2018 Indiana state title in the 110M Hurdles. This leaves the Norris family with five track & field state championships titles to their name and a young Olivia Norris to carry on the torch.

Like her brother, Olivia originally competed for the Fishers Fire but has since transitioned to an “Unattached” status. While her brother, father, and uncle excelled in the running events, Olivia gravitated to field events, Specifically the Javelin. At the time she began competing the Javelin was relatively new event to the area, she tried it and fell in love. As you can imagine, the Norris household is pretty competitive, to surpass her brother’s accomplishments, her training became almost obsessive in nature. Shortly after picking up her first Javelin she began to excel and the results started pouring in; she currently holds 6 consecutive state championships and 5 regional championships. Add to this a few national championships and silver medals finishes on the club level and Olivia Norris is now a national name in the world of Javelin.

Javelin Accolades & Accomplishments:

  • 2018 – 2nd Place (AAU National Runner up)
  • 2017 – 1st Place (AAU National Champion)
  • 2016 – 1st Place (AAU Northern National Champion)
  • 2015 – 2nd Place (USATF National Runner up)
  • 4X All American
  • 6X State Champion

We anxiously await the upcoming year to see what Olivia has in store and whether she will continue her family’s tradition and bring home a 6th Indiana State Championship. We will be watching and supporting her along the way, good luck Champ.
